This is a list of all occurances of the surnames Ginty and McCarrick that I came across in my examination of this film. There is no guarantee that I caught all of them. Also, the surname Ginty may have been spelled Genty, Geenty or Guinty depending on the parish priest recording the name. I have chosen to spell the name Ginty in all cases.

The records have been used most frequently by those Researching Surnames in Kilmacteige Parish – below are several sections that have been transcribed — but the formatting is in need of work — use the “search” function or your “find” function in the browser to search this page due to bad formatting.

The original Church registers were filmed decades ago, by Mormon Missionaries to Ireland, decades after they were created. I am researching the History of this (when, where filmed, ect.) as some records have considerable “readability problems” and bleed-through from the old pens/ink.

It is HARD WORK to Transcribed — to look at page images, for hours, and zoom in and zoom out sometimes to ascertain LETTERS/CHARACTERS to finish each Surname, Christian Name, Sponsor Names, and Witnesses is difficult (need funding to do all 600-700 pages) – BUT it is invaluable data We with Ancestors in this area of South Sligo NEED. The last file is pre-1900s but  NOT transcribed in full yet — I have tried multiple times to finish the work – but we need to get a school project, or retirement societies – to find 10-100 (or more) people to share the work load to enter this data into computer files (as computers cannot yet transcribe text from photos of handwritten cursive writing (reliably) – but it is getting there. And without being able to re-coup any investiment in time and equipment it will probably not be a commercial venture.

The LDS library catalog characterizes the Kilmacteigue/Kilmacteige Parish records (Items 7-13) as “poor” quality:

Unfortunately, while transcripts of baptisms, 1845-1880 and marriages, 1848-1881 are also filmed as FHL BRITISH Film 926015, the other original registers are only available (as far as I know) on 1279231.
